The band ‘Creation Roots' was formed in 1983 and have performed in live gigs and charity shows up and down the country over the years earning them the respect of an avid collection of supporters. However, they seem to be like the bridesmaids of the reggae industry, for they have supported some of the best reggae bands in the UK and Jamaica, artists like Aswad, Alton Ellis, Barrington Levi, Cutty Ranks, Macca B, Black Slate ..... the list goes on. They have also supported the soul diva Ruby Turner as well as the band New Model Army (Rock band)
Selassie I Lives' received rave reviews in the 'Black Echoes' magazine when it was released in 1989 on the independent label 'Quatro World Music' and the band performed it live on Out of our heads music programme filmed for BBC2. in 1992 Creation Roots set up their own label 'Graphics' and released their first EP the title track was called 'Girls' and it also featured 'Pye Pye Lovin' the video dancehall tune which became one of their most popular singles to date.
All the distinguishing characteristics of their music is in evidence in this album 'Troddin' recorded and produced by Mad Professor of Ariwa records London . The album has being released on the bands label 'Graphics' and is now distributed by Jet Star distributions London Tel.020 8961 5818 Fax 020 8965 7008.
It is something about their artistry which makes makes it impossible for you to decide which track you like best. There are not many bands who would concentrate all their time , money and energy on this obvious fixation with reggae music for this length of time and with major backing. The multitude of roots tunes seem quite distinguishable in comparison with other British based reggae bands and the combination of drum and bass could hardly fail to win over their fans. |
